Sam Houston ca. 1846 daguerreotype by Matthew Brady. Houston was serving his first term as Texas Senator at the time this daguerreotype was taken at Brady's studio in New York City. Brady had opened in his studio in 1844 and was busy capturing images of notable figures. Daniel Webster, John C. Calhoun and Henry Clay were among some of the other early sitters for Brady.
